CMoy headphone amplifier version 3

Posted on 26 April 201824 November 2019

After building my Mark II CMoy headphone amplifier I decided to make a version which resembled more of a desktop model.

Nelson Pass ACA v1.5 DIY build

Posted on 15 April 201822 November 2019

When I first started searching online for information about DIY audio, I came across the DIYAudio forum, as I expect most people do. Feeling bewildered, I clicked through to the store and saw what seemed to be the answer to my problems, the Amp Camp Amplifier, designed by Nelson Pass. This is a complete kit…

CMoy Headphone amplifier version 2

Posted on 3 April 201824 November 2019

After building my first CMoy amplifier, I wanted to have another go and correct some of the problems I had with the first build. Specifically, I wanted to see if I could get rid of the hum and find a better case.

Building the Objective 2 headphone amplifier

Posted on 3 April 201825 June 2019

Anybody who looks into building their own headphone amplifier will come across the Objective 2 at some point. It was designed by the anonymous electrical engineer known as NwAvGuy as an experiment in high quality, well designed and engineered equipment, but crucially at low cost.

Musicscope Analysis: Gogo Penguin – A Humdrum Star

Posted on 16 February 201825 June 2019

I thought I would start posting Musicsope analysis data from recent music purchases.  The results are presented without comment: dynamic range (DR), loudness levels, pushing levels to clipping – all are artistic choices. For the most part, it’s not my cup of tea to have such restricted DR but then again, I don’t suppose I’m…

Is it real or is it……

Posted on 15 February 201825 June 2019

In the 1970s Memorex ran  TV adverts that attempted to show how people would not be able to tell the difference between a live recording and one that was recorded to their cassette tape. The tagline was: Is it live or is it Memorex? Now we are told that 16/44.1 music is not really good…

Classic 47 Headphone Amplifier Kit

Posted on 24 January 201825 June 2019

This was the first amp that I attempted. My expectations were low but the rationale behind buying it was that it was I wanted to practice soldering and  have a (hopefully) working product at the end of it. Prior to this I was practicing  on a perf board with wire.
