I’ve been contemplating stopping buying CDs for a while now, the accumulation of them is fast outgrowing the storage…..again. There is no space in our tiny living room for another shelf for them. Everytime I think I’ll stop and I go to purchase a download, I end up with a CD instead. Why does this happen? Simple, price.
This week is a case in point. Two albums were released this week that I wanted, Nils Frahm’s All Melody and Inspiration by Sheku Kanneh-Mason. I’m not interested in paying the extra for 24/96 releases, whilst nice to have (if they are genuine, another story) 16/44 does me fine. Everywhere I looked, the price for CD quality downloads (Qobuz, HD Tracks, Bandcamp and Erased Tapes for Frahm amongst the many) were more expensive than the physical CD.
Two more CDs for me then.
